Richard Carden is Vice President of Special Projects for GSM.  He graduated with a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Montana Tech in 1977.  One of his primary responsibilities is to provide industry training seminars in the United States and internationally through PetroSkills.  When not teaching, he is involved in many special drilling, completion and well control projects.

Mr. Carden was formerly a Drilling and Production Engineer for Marathon Oil Company in the Rocky Mountains.  He serves as drilling and completion consultant both domestically and overseas with emphasis in directional, horizontal and underbalanced wells.  He has experience in planning well site operations for deep, high-pressure gas wells, geothermal wells, and directional and horizontal wells.  He also has extensive experience in well control operations.

He is the author of numerous technical papers on directional drilling applications.  He is a contributing author to for the Underbalanced Drilling Manual published by GRI and the Blowout and Well Control Handbook published by Gulf Publishing.
