Jerry currently is focused on mentoring the next generation of drilling engineers and well control experts. Since 1976 Jerry Shursen has been a drilling consultant and well control specialist after helping to form Grace, Shursen, Moore and Associates, Inc. As a consultant, author and seminar organizer, he has been fortunate to be involved in pioneering new hydraulic kill techniques for blowouts, development of current industry-standard relief well techniques and was an early pioneer of horizontal drilling operations. Jerry has been the primary decision maker for solving numerous well control situations. He has conducted seminars in Drilling Practices, Advanced Pressure Control, Completion Practices and Offshore Drilling Practices. Jerry’s early career was as a production and completions engineer, drilling engineer, superintendent, operations manager and area manager for international drilling contractors. He has worked in 28 countries since beginning his career in 1968. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma University.
