
Vice-President of Special Projects
Richard Carden is Vice President of Special Projects for GSM. He has a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Montana Tech. He has more than 35 years’ experience in the oil industry as a drilling and completion consultant. He has worked on high pressure gas wells, horizontal wells, geothermal wells, relief wells, injection wells, underbalanced drilling operations, blowouts and well control audits. His experience includes planning, estimating costs, implementing the drilling and completion operations, and plug and abandonment. He has experience with forensic analysis of well problems.Mr. Carden also teaches industry training courses. He has conducted more than 100 courses in Drilling, Directional Drilling, Underbalanced Drilling and Well Control over the past 30 years. Since 2000, he has conducted the courses as a PetroSkills instructor. Additionally, he has worked as an expert witness. He is the author of numerous technical papers on directional drilling applications and underbalanced drilling. He is a contributing author for the Underbalanced Drilling Manual published by GRI and the Blowout and Well Control Handbook published by Gulf Publishing.
